It might be too late, but can anyone tell me what’s wrong with my striped calathea? Its leaves have been turning yellow and dying off. I assumed it was due to a lack of nutrients, so I used some fertilizer with its last watering but it hasn’t seemed to help. Did I make it worse? Also, I used diatomaceous earth on it to help treat some fungus gnats, so that’s what you’re seeing on the soil in case anyone was wondering

How much light does it get? They need a lot of light preferably a grow light. About 600 foot candles if you use a light meter.

It’s about 10 feet from a south facing window

Are you getting direct sunlight through the window? If not, 10 feet from a south-facing window that’s getting indirect sunlight may be considered shady light conditions. I’ve had this problem with my own plants as well. You could try moving it closer to the window or a grow light. Maybe also check to make sure that the soil isn’t too saturated either so you can rule out water imbalance/overwatering as well.

Honestly, it could be fungus gnat larvae destroying the root system. I had gnats in my maranta and the thing just was not drinking up any water and I pulled it out and found root rot. You could dig it out and give it a fresh medium to grow in or use azamax to kill the larvae

I had the exact same issue with mine a couple of weeks ago. It had been completely fine during the summer, but now that the heating has come on and the air isn’t as humid I’ve had to move mine to the bathroom which has a drafty window and higher humidity 😂. It fixed the problem straight away, so hope that helps.
