Window question! My only good plant windows are north facing windows… | Foliage Plant Haven | Planta-Community

Window question! My only good plant windows are north facing windows and I’ve been having some issues with my plants getting a little too toasty, I also can’t easily close my curtains so there’s a privacy issue as well. I want to put a window film up, but will it block out too much sun? Is there a certain kind I should get? I’m thinking frosted glass or stained glass films?

You could try it on one window and see how the plants do? Or get a light meter, measure before and after installation and see if you’re happy with results. It’s hard to tell as different films have different percentages of light blocking. If you want to be in the most control, tint would be the best option as you are presented with an array of different percentages best suited for your needs!

I have a light meter, I didn’t even think about that 😂 with tint though, I’d be worried about it blocking uv rays, I still want the uv right?

There’s different types of film, such as ceramic tint, with its main focus being UV blockage. I would recommend a film such as heat rejection films, light redirection films, glare reduction films etc. you could always buy a kit online or have one professionally installed as well. there’s lots of options!

Thank you! Working on a similar setup in my bedroom, I have a window on each side of the bed, that’s where the film will be going lol this window will probably stay full sun

I’ve used Coavas frosted window film, from Amazon, for my bathroom windows before. Still let in plenty of light, but gave lots of privacy. It’s non-adhesive, and easy to install. Just cut to size, spray some diluted dawn in a spray bottle, and stick it to the window.

Also you could cut the non adhesive film in a pattern so that the overall effect is dappled light
