Hello there! I recently got this lovely rubber plant, but despite growing new leaves, it has developed these rotting-like brown edges. Planta says it’s overwatered, but I’m wondering if there anything I can do besides leaving it to dry for a while. It’s been getting worse; any advice? Thanks in advance!

    How’s its drainage?

Also if it’s in a plastic pot that drains inside a decorative pot that doesn’t, do you take the plant out of the decorative pot to drain so it doesn’t have excess water?

Yes, I always give it time to drain after watering before putting back in the decorative part. I haven’t repotted it yet, and the soil it came with felt kind of spongy and had like a mold or something on top, which I removed; I wonder if it’s the soil, holding too much water? Or a draft from the AC?

I’ve found that my rubber trees like to dry out pretty well before watering. Almost as much as a succulent. I’ve noticed that a lot of the big box stores are potting any plant in coconut coir and I think that stays moist too long. You can pop the pot in front of the AC or a fan to help it dry out if it’s currently soggy. I’ve even heard on here that some people put a tampon on the soil for really speedy absorption of excess water. Hopefully that helps your problem. If you end up losing those leaves that have started to brown, using keiki paste on the nodes can encourage new growth points

      That’s helpful, thanks!

Also try using distilled if you are not already. I found the water in my area is pretty hardy. Ever since switching my plants have been doing much better with less browning of the leaves.
