I can offer some general tips on your bonsai, depending on how much effort you want to put into it. Since you just got it, all I’d do is place it in the preferred light for the tree and figure out its watering needs. Make sure the pot has good drainage. If the pot is shallow, you’ll need to water it more frequently than if it’s deeper. I’d use a moisture meter until you’ve gotten a better understanding of the tree. Keep in mind that a small tree will lose much more moisture through its leaves and roots when it’s hot because the air and the pot heat up. I have to water one of mine twice a day right now, while he only gets water twice a week in winter. I’d consider repotting somewhere around late February to March. You’ll need to trim the roots—but no more than 30%—and provide fresh potting mix. It’s up to you what kind you prefer, but fast-draining is best. Experts say akadama bonsai mix is the best. It’s labor intensive, though, and you have to keep an eye on it because after about 18 months all the grit collapses in on itself and becomes impermeable, which means you risk root rot. I don’t fertilize mine with watering—there are special slow-release nuggets for bonsai you can add to the soil and refresh once in a while. But to start with, I’d just let it acclimatize. If it’s happy, it’s much easier and more fun to take care of. 💚

Thank you so much!!
1 gillaBird of paradise is a tropical plant. So you’re not going to want to let it completely dry out, water when soil is about 70/75% dry. It likes bright indirect light & does go in a well draining soil.

Peace Lily’s love a ton of water, and I water mine weekly. I also have mine in a west facing window with bright fingered light! I’ve found that mine blooms more if I give it more water. Hope that help some!
