My new Chicago apartment has a south facing sunroom so it gets drenched in bright direct light. Can anyone recommend foliage plants that actually thrive in this environment? I’m new to plants and every foliage plant only likes indirect bright light. I don’t want more than a couple succulents out there. Right now I have a string of pearls, English ivy, and a nasturtium. I don’t think I can leave the nasturtium out there - I thought it might cope if I heavily monitored the soil dampness but the leaves aren’t looking thrilled with the situation. I was also hoping to have a few variegated-leaf plants but it seems colorful leaves aren’t big fans of direct light either. I know a pothos will probably have the determination to live in the light but I’d love more suggestions. I really want to fill this room with thriving plants!

epipremnum (pothos) and tradescantia species do great in bright light in my experience. i second the monstera, my m. deliciosa is doing fantastic getting over 4 hours of direct light and indirect light all day. snake plants and spider plants, despite often being labeled as low light plants, do great in bright light as long as they’re acclimated properly.

Have you considered getting sheer curtains to filter the light or putting up those decals that throw rainbows? I think if you want these kind of plants you may have to alter the environment a bit.

What about miniature fruit trees? Like citrus?
