Hi! I recently bought this Manjula pothos off of Facebook marketplace and she was doing great, but I recently noticed that the top of the soil started to turn white. I scraped it off, but it came back again. I’m not sure what this is. Does anyone know what causes that and what I can do to prevent it?

Sounds like to me, is that you may have been over watering it. That white stuff is most likely mold growing because of soggy soil. How often do you water it?

I usually water it once a week and drain the excess water after 15 minutes if there’s any water it didn’t soak up!

Mold or hard water? Try using distilled water if you have hard water. I can’t tell from the picture but if the white stuff is soggy and textured, it could be mold. Hard water residue is usually thin and crusty. Maybe bottom water and don’t water so often. You may want to put it in some fresh soil to get rid of it.

It’s mold! If its on all the soil top to bottom, replace soil and water it less. As long as the mold isn’t on the plant, it’s perfectly harmless!
