hi there! i'm a super beginner plant parent! while researching i see people placing their plant from the store with the plastic pot from the store directly into a nice pot, without reporting into the bigger pot with soil. i know this is a silly question, but am i supposed to keep it in the plastic one inside of the decor pot? or do i repot it into the big decor pot? thank you so so much!

Hi Morg, welcome! The reason people put the plastic pot into the decor pot is so that overflow water from the plastic pot can drain out. This helps prevent root rot, which would really, really be bad for your plant. It’s often a good idea to repot plants and give them more room plus better potting mix, but I’d wait for a while until the new plant has gotten used to the surroundings. Give it two or three weeks. One of the easiest ways to keep your plant hydrated but not overwatered is to buy a self-watering planter. They have a drainage layer built in, and you can see from the water measure when you need to water. If you’d prefer to use your own decor pot, repot the plant from its original pot into a slightly larger one with drainage holes. Before you put any soil in there, add a layer of pebbles to help with the drainage. I use both these methods. I also have a moisture meter so I can tell exactly when my babies need watering.
