*leggy fiddle leaf fig help* Hi! I’ve had this Fiddle Leaf Fig for a few years. Propagated a few plants from it and moved it outside and it’s been growing some new leaves at the top as expected. However, I want to ask if there is a way to stimulate leaf growth lower in the stem. I’ve looked online and I suspect the answer is “no” given the woody nature of the entire stem save for the top 20cm. In anticipation I’ve planted some Pothos to climb up the stem but would love to stimulate lower leaf growth if possible, advice welcome! 🤗

You can consider notching and applying keiki paste!!

Hi! Thanks for replying. I added a comment that I tried notching (forgot the word!) already but Planta bugs mean it’s not showing. What’s the paste you mention?

Sorry I didn’t get notified you responded but keiki paste is a growth hormone usually used to activate orchid buds BUT I’ve seen people use it on other plants too.

I tried notching already but it hasn’t worked, I guess cos the stem is too woody (posting for 2nd time as bug meant comment wasn’t showing)

If you can’t get lower leaves to push out from the stem…have you thought about repotting it with a shorter one to help fill it in visually?

I’m having the opposite problem! My stems are short but have lots of leaves.

Personally, it still looks good. If you really wanna stop it from being leggy, then I prune it and propagate the cuttings.
