I’m fairly new to this so I’m going to apologize now because I have a feeling I’m going to have quite a few questions in the near future. This is my Coppertone Stonecrop. I’m getting ready to repot it but after doing some reading I have a bad feeling that this guy has not had enough direct light. The leaves are all very firm but they aren’t supposed to be growing downwards are they? Do I need to cut the tops off, let them scab over and pot them in soil? I also read that this plant will spill out of its pot as it grows so should I remove the stabilizing sticks and let it grow where it wants? Thank you!

Hey girl! I got one of these when I first started and they grow really resiliently so I wouldn’t stress too much! I do agree that it is etiolated from lack of sun but that’s just something that happens with succulents! All of mine that gets brought indoors become tall over the cold season because there’s not enough sunlight anymore. It’s fairly normal to chop your succulents back and start a new bowl from cuttings and it’s super rewarding watching new plants emerge from each leaf. You can chop this one back and itll grow back in multiple points from the cut or you can pluck off some of the lower leaves and lay them on soil and they’ll also grow. You could literally lay one of these leaves on your window sill and most of the time it’ll shoot out roots looking for water. I personally don’t keep succulents that end up “trailing” just because I’m not really into the style but it’s not going to die just because it’s getting longer either. End of the day, it’ll keep growing even if it won’t look like the dictionary photo, and that’s ok because once you do give it the condition it wants, it’ll bounce right back into the right shape. ☺️
