Oh man, repotting a monstera is ALWAYS a project. I usually repot on a cloth mat so the soil doesn’t get everywhere. I remove the soil that used to be on it just by kind of shaking it off. You don’t want to go crazy removing everything because too much moving can stress the plant out. Before you put your plant in its new pot, put in your moss pole. This is optional but I suggest putting something super aerating around the base of the pole that’s heavy so it’ll help hold the pole in place- charcoal, lava rock, pumice, leca, akadama are a few heavy options to pick from. Put your plant in the pot and fill up with soil. When you’re tying your plant to your pole, you want to be sure you’re not pinching any new emerging leaves or existing leaves. Try to tie only on the in between parts of nodes where there are no leaves growing. Once you put your monstera to a light source, it will figure itself out and start turning its leaves towards the light. If you don’t turn your plant, you’ll get a more full frontal facing plant that you can keep against a wall somewhere and have the wall hide all of your strings. These plants don’t really grow two new sprouts the way plants like basil do (bifocate) so keep that in mind when you decide you want to turn your plant. I like to give my plants a healthy dose of worm castings when I repot to help them recover from the stress of repotting as well. You’ll want to also give it a very thorough watering so all the new soil settles around the roots. 👍 hope this helps!
