I’m new to this app & to having plants. I love being in indoor spaces that have lots of plants. So when I found this app, I decided I’d give it a go about a week ago & bought a 5’6” fiddle leaf tree — need to figure out how to help it create branches, a large snake plant that I divided into 4 pots, a majestic palm, a ponytail plant, an aloe Vera, and a small Kalanchoe Tiger succulent (that last one isn’t in Planta) I read elsewhere that it’s a better idea to put broken pottery over drainage holes than pebbles (plus rocks at the bottom below the soil only raises the water level in the soil). I had broken one of my favorite bowls they had been my father’s the day before I picked up my new plant babies & have put one piece of Daddy’s bowl over each drainage hole —- since it was a bowl, there are very few flat pieces — when I repotted them. It was a big bowl, so I have lots. I like this for sentimental reasons, but want to ask if this is a good thing to do?

Welcome to Planta and I hope we will be able to help you to fill up your indoor spaces with lots of greenery 🌿 What a lovely story. Thank you for sharing. You’re absolutely correct and I myself also use broken ceramic pieces above the drainage holes of my pots. It’s actually good if they aren’t flat. Because they will let more water out of the pot then ☺️ So keep doing so! If you write to contact@getplanta.com I can send you our article on how to maintain and build a crown on your indoor trees.
