So I just became a member of the monstera club, and I was wondering if anyone here has an estimate of how old my plant is. She’s about 14 inches tall, maybe even 16 inches, I was curious how long it takes to get the beautiful leaves with the “ slits” in them? I have two new leaves that are about to unfurl. I heard that the plant Hass to be about 2 to 3 years old before they start producing the super cool leaves. Also, she had about five more leaves when I bought her, but they were pretty rough looking so I trimmed them off. I think she’s beautiful the way she is, but I’m so excited to see her uniqueness. This is Monica by the way.also, any advice on how to keep her happy and healthy would be much appreciated. I think I read somewhere that they like to be in smaller pots?

    It’s said online to repot them about every two years, but I’d judge it by if the roots start poking out the drainage holes anytime before that as a sign to repot too. They have to be a bit more mature to make their holey leaves, around 2 or so years like you said, and a bit of chopping any dead or damaged leaves doesn’t do them any harm. She could maybe do with a small stake for some support as she grows as they like something to grip onto, just use some Velcro plant tape to attach it. It looks happy and healthy enough, so you’re doing all the right things! Its just a waiting game on the fenestration!

      Thank you for the response and advice! I have bamboo stakes and that awesome Velcro tape for plants. I absolutely love it! I was thinking about getting a moss pole for it so the roots could attach to it. Should I wait for it to get a bit bigger? And I just potted it yesterday. The roots were sticking out of the nursery pot by about an inch. So I’m wondering if it’s maybe a year old? Or do they grow super fast and would be this developed already?

      you could definitely put her on a moss pole! i think it’s hard to tell how old it is really especially growing in a nursery. i think a year is a good enough estimate :)
