So, I got this plant a few weeks ago after a cold spell, it was a little bit cold damaged but not bad enough to set the plant back too far. I honestly can't tell if it is a calathea or more of a marantha? I am leaning more toward calathea, but it was labeled as a prayer plant, which I always thought was marantha. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really change the care it wants, but I am curious to know what I actually have. Any ideas?

Well this is absolutely a calathea, but I’m not sure what species or cultivar. My guess is it is G. roseopicta ‘Jungle Rose’. Marantas and calatheas share a lot of similarities, including care. Both are considered prayer plants, but that just means their leaves fold down during the day and fold up at night. And you’re right that all of these plants have very similar care profiles, so it probably won’t matter much. But I agree, I like to know the precise taxonomy of all my plants 😊

You only have one picture of your plant, so I’m going off of limited information, but based on the coloring and pattern I’m guessing it is a Calathea roseopicta medallion

Yea I just got it a few weeks ago, so I haven't had a chance to take any progress photos. It was labeled as a white stripe maranta but I'll look at the dottie and see. I just don't see any of the white stripes like the one planta suggested, but it is also a smaller juvenile plant too. I'll take more pictures of it once I get back home

It might be calathea medallion. But it’s not white star.

Definitely a calathea. It looks like either a medallion or a green goddess. It’s hard to tell with the lighting in the pic.
