I saw this beautiful little Alocasia at the grocery store today for $6.99! Immediately checked the roots, which look great. But…the potting medium is weird and spongy and almost like a dense brownie. I have no clue what to do or how to remove it without damaging the roots. Do I leave it as is for now or repot? Any help would be great!

More Alocasia love! How can I not when she's clearly strutting her stuff. She has taken to her new pot, aggressively! New leaf so variegated! What I jokingly call her "bum leaf" has finally shown some age spots today :/ cutie! Already showing signs of a new leaf too come! I expect her to outgrow this pot very soon! Ms Frangelica! Just got this new plant from Home Depot! It was labeled as an alocasia regal shield but it looks more like an alocasia wentii to me? What do you think? Also does these seem like a good enough spot this far from grow lights?

What can I do to prevent droopy leaves? Everytime a new one comes out the oldest then starts to drop. I end up chopping it before it even dies bc I just hate looking at it. It hasn’t been able to hold onto more than 02 leaves. Does it need more light or should I try a self watering pot? Maybe pon instead of soil??

I LOVE the look of Alocasia’s and want one, but have been worried about how well one might thrive and the horror stories of people killing ten in a row. Do you think this area can support one? (Where the fake plant currently is) It’s about 6 feet from a west facing window. Humidity is pretty low- no humidifiers or dehumidifiers in the house, and I’m in southern california so humidity is usually around like 50-60% I really love the look of these plants and want one, but I know the first time I kill a plant i’ll be devastated so I don’t want to buy one if i’m just sacrificing it to death.

Shipped from FL to VT, 3 weeks in and may be my new favorite. My first alocasia was a Polly who, for almost a year gave me the worst problems.. But, I'm determined, and more stubborn and picky than they are 😏😅

I bought my first Alocasia Sarian about 4 weeks ago and she’s having a lot of new growth. But after doing more research I noticed that her leaves seem to be very small. Any advice on how to help her grow bigger leaves. She is in a 4 inch pot right now about 3 ft from my east facing window.
