Hi im a beginner with plants and this is my first plant, can anyone help me figure out whats wrong with it? i had bought it from the clearance section of a plant shop so it was already in bad shape, i just dont know the issue. help!
We propagated and divided our only Alocasia Frydeck a couple of weeks ago - some were propagated from corms, some from a root structure (no leaves), and the rest were root structures with a leaf or two. We went from one big plant (first picture) to 10 or 11 new ones. And they’re all doing great!
Over the moon with my new Alocasia Zebrina 🥰There’s one stem/leaf that is very badly dropping with a huge brown crispy section. Best to prune right down to base of plant?
I have a love/hate relationship w my local Home Depot plant dept. I LOVE it this week because I found a red mambo Alocasia on clearance for $3.95 😅 She was clearly neglected but still in really great condition. (Side note I also found a philodendron pink princess and white wizard! Rare Home Depot W 👊🏾)
Alocasia Sunday!!!! My black velvet just opened up a new leaf and it’s got a bloom too! It’s also growing corms! Found a silver dragon at Walmart! I’ve had it on my wishlist for awhile now. Plus when I repotted it already had 3 corms! Also got an Amazonica from IKEA and its new leaf just opened too!
My two newest additions.. small red secret alocasia and the other was marked Melo x silver dragon alocasia.
So I need help with my cuprea!! It looks fine, the stems aren’t drooping, but the leaves are sorta facing down. The stem is upright, but it’s like the tips of the leaves are going inwards toward the stem. So the leaf is kinda facing more downwards instead of outwards. I hope I explained that well lol. Any help appreciated :)
Any suggestions for my young Bambino? I got rid of the baby yellow leaf, and feeling pretty good about the new leaf on the middle. Just concerned about the tips of the other leaves being yellow and dry. I would assume this is under watering? I keep it right by my humidifier and mist every few days. Thanks in advance!
Just got my baby alocasia frydek variegated. Hoping it does well. Anyone have any special tips?
Plant ID help please! Is this an Alocasia cucullata/Chinese taro? Or my friend thinks it might be a philodendron gloriosum? I won a mystery plant in a contest and it didn’t come with an ID haha. Need to ID her so I can care for accordingly 🙏
hello my planty friends 🌱 started my alocasia collection not too long ago & am still trying to learn more about them. my dragon scale & frydek cannot hold onto their leaves for the life of them!! they still do maintain bigger foliage with new leaves, however it seems they can’t hold onto more than 2 at a time. why could this be? how do i get my alocasia’s to stop dropping leaves? please help me out!! thank you guys :)
So happy with this new leaf! 😍🪴
This was a very bad colocasia. I got him 50% off in the outdoor section of my local ace at the end of the season. I made the mistake of buying him as an indoor plant when he had clearly been an outdoor plant. After a few days of having him inside I noticed as I was passing by out of the corner of my eye what appeared to be fine webs glistening in the sun in the middle of one of the leaves. I immediately did a second take and a closer inspection showed some fine specks on the leaves. I became concerned and decided to spray for spider mites just in case. My concern ended up being quite justified as a week or so later I could clearly see a web between the V at the top of the leaves. So he was banished to the outdoors where bad plants belong. Frankly at that point I didn’t care much whether he lived or died, he was only $8 after all. But I continued to treat him with Neem oil and Insecticidal soap like a good plant parent and mostly forgot about him as I was just grateful that he didn’t pass his little friends on to my other plants. For awhile he did not appear to be doing well as his large leaves shriveled up and died one by one. But I happened to look over today and I notice some new leaves unfurling and no new signs of spider mites. Now I can’t quite decide what to do with him. Should I take the chance of integrating him back into the household knowing his previous poor behavior?
ALOCASIA — BAD BREAKUP POST 💔 I love my Alocasias so much, but it’s starting to feel like they’re a bad boyfriend that I keep taking back no matter what. In the past, when they’ve gotten sick, I’ve always applied the proper treatment and been patient and waited for them to come back around. When one of my favorites would die, I’d buy a new one and tell myself things would be different this time — *I* would be different, I’d be a better plant parent. I give and I give and I give… They’re so fussy and high-maintenance and I feel like I’m always nursing them and bringing them back to health or worried about what fungus they’re going to get or what pests and critters they’re going to bring into my home next. I’m always researching what disease might be affecting my beloved Alocasia, what’s causing it to droop, its leaves to yellow, or how to revive my darling, dying plant. Am I gaslighting myself or are my Alocasias gaslighting me? I don’t even know anymore. I think I’m about to give up on them for good. I think the last straw for me was when my Alocasia Jacklyn got spider mites and infected my beautiful prized Hoya Krohniana Black. It’s one thing to hurt me, but to hurt the ones that I love??? I tossed my Jacklyn (given name: “Jacqueline Kennedy,” because she was fahn-cy) and my Bambino (given name: “Dopey”) because I was so grossed out by the spider mites and mealybugs and horrified that they might spread to my other plants. I finally dumped my Polly (given name: “Dumbo”) after giving up all hope he would ever come back from the root rot or whatever was afflicting him. Still deciding what to do about my Alocasia Silver Dragon (given name: Daenerys) and Alocasia Black Velvet (given name: Jon Snow). I think me and my “bad boyfriend” are going to go on another break. I will not take him back, no matter how distinctive or stunning his foliage. I will not be seduced by his heart- or arrow-shaped leaves. I will not be fooled by his tuberous rhizomes and jagged edges. I will not be taken in by his many varieties. It’s YOU, it’s not me — and I will remind myself that the promise of deep green leaves, glossy shine, and prominent veins will only give way to heartbreak and disappointment. It’s over, for good. No, really. I *really* mean it this time. 👀 “There is nothing more painful in this world than to be in love with something that never can be.” - Laura Chouette "Truth is everybody is going to hurt you: you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for." - Bob Marley
Hey everyone! So I was gifted this Maxkowskii by a coworker and i'm newer to Alocasia care. Just wondering if there's anything I should be doing different as this plant is smaller (8 in. Tall) then the ones I typically buy (Cut back on fertilizing/water etc. ). Also, how fast would it grow at this size? Any tips would be appreciated! :)
These brown spots are appearing on my large Alocasia. It’s been putting out new leaves and seems healthy but why the brown spots? It gets a lot of indirect bright light. Also just this morning I noticed the lighter spots on it. Should I be concerned? I did repot it a few days ago.
She is concerningly beautiful 🤍
what do I do?? A lot of the leaves are curling and turning yellow!
Does anyone know the name of this plant
