What method of transplanting will have the highest success rate? I used to have two separate corms with leaves but this is the only one that made it after some problems with mealy bugs and root rot. I’d hate to have this one die after it’s made it this far! 😓

Hey alocasia lovers, don’t be a dummy like me and somehow confuse alocasia’s and Calatheas. lol they don’t even resemble. But my mistake was thinking it’s corms and not rhizomes. Don’t cut your rhizomes calathea parents. Your roots will brown and leaves will loose color immediately. I don’t care what you try she’s dead in 3 days tops.

Hi guys! So my alocasia pushed off a nee leaf and dropped an old one which isn’t surprising but after shes getting yellow and im scared shes dropping her biggest leaves i thought it was too much light so i moved her away from the grow light but she keeps getting worse!!

Trader Joe’s did it to me again. I just brought home an Alocasia Polly. My first Alocasia of any kind. I understand they have a little drama that comes with them? Current state: I checked and don’t see any bugs. The soil is dry the top two inches. And I thought I would let her sit ‘as is’ for a couple of weeks to acclimate and then assess for repotting. Does anyone have any additional advice or suggestions?

I saved this alocasia lutea from the discount table at my favorite local nursery about a month ago. Today she said thanks with this gorgeous new leaf. (She also had about a dozen corms wren I got her so there will be giant taro all over my house soon. ❤️)

Ok, so I heard that Alocasias are dramatic. But this whole “drop a full grown healthy leaf to pop out a baby leaf” gives me a mild heart attack EVERY time 😩😩

I got this alocasia cuprea today and this is the condition it was in. I noticed it’s pretty much the same damage as the new Polly I got from a different store last week however the soil seems a much better and airy mix than the Polly was in. I just replanted the Polly (actually discovered it was 2 of them) and saved the root system from the evil cloth of death that was still wrapped around the base. I’m going to wait on replanting this one as well but I found this big orange ball on top of the soil in the cuprea and the small white ones in the Polly. These are my first alocasia but I’ve seen online they make corms to reproduce, is that what these all are? I thought my Polly would be way too small to start a family and wouldn’t expect to find the cuprea having kids above soil level. The cuprea also looks to be 2 separate plants as well so maybe we’ll have to separate them as well.
