Hello all! I brought home this pretty lady about two weeks ago. She’s still in her nursery pot for now but I’d like to get her into a bigger pot soon to sustain her long term. She’s a couple feet away from a south facing glass sliding door, so she gets quite a bit of sun (though I live in rainy Seattle so sun is a loose term here). Any recommendations for potting substrate and timeline for repotting? I have pretty much only had plants in standard potting mix before, and I know Alocasias can be finicky, so I’m trying to give her my very best. Also, when would be a good time to repot? She doesn’t seem obviously root bound from what I can see, but this nursery pot is definitely on the smaller side for a plant this big in my opinions. One last thing: She has a small, sad looking droopy leaf. Anything I can do to save it? She’s also put out another leaf that is unfurling at the moment.

    i have an alocasia borneo that i purchased a while ago, it was in a similar size nursery pot when purchased and it was incredibly root bound. i moved it into a very large pot (i keep it outside on my front patio) and it had grown some of the largest leaves i’ve ever seen in person😂 i mixed potting soil, orchid bark, and extra perlite for aeration in a bin, all of my plants have been doing much better since! i live in north carolina so its pretty humid here majority of the year, but it still allows both my indoor and outdoor plants to dry out a good bit so i can make sure they’re not being overwatered or holding excess water :)
