Is this baby ready to graduate from its long time watery home? If so, what is the very best medium for this plant to grow in? I’ve heard that Alocasias like leca, or something similar, mediums with which I am not familiar. Advice, please! TIA…
I had the same variation of alocasia corm and it molded in water 🫠
0件のいいね Well, I guess all I can say is, I must be lucky! I didn’t even think this corm could be propped, but got some advice from other Planta members to try propping it. This prop has been in this glass for several moons; it took forever for it to start rooting. However, she looks like she’s going to make it; she’s even grown that leaf, which was not there when I started propping her! I want to give her the best chance there is, so that’s why I’m asking more experienced individuals what medium I should prop her in. So sorry about your prop; I’m not informed enough to comment on the problem of mold on your prop. Maybe somebody will chime in, and give you some insight on this.

That sucks, I'm sorry. You could try treating with Growsafe, or similar. Even a swim in some peroxide would help kill off any spores
いいね 1件 Yea, should be good. Make sure to heavy water it at first, so it transitions to plain media well

0件のいいね If i was going to organic, I'd use a chunky mix (soil, perlite, orchid bark, gypsum, charcoal, Mycorrhizal. Is my usual), just avoid any pre-mixes with heavy peat. Leca or pon would work as well. I have several alocasia in both and they seem to like it. I'd say they seem to like the pon more than the leca, I think thats simply because the pon has fertilizer additives

0件のいいね The main thing is getting all the soil off, which you don't need to do, since it's already in water. I haven't really used self watering pots with my pon yet. .... I just water them like normal. I did just get a few self waterers to actually use that way lol. You can see the water level in them. I had just gotten some new plants before I left on vacation for 5 days and didn't want any wilting. You loop the wick up so it touches the bottom portion of the roots, then it'll dangle down into the reservoir that you will with water.
