I’m trying to ID this alocasia that I got from the son of a collector who had recently passed away. She had all sorts of hybrids. This looks like a ninja/black velvet/maharani at first glance, but the leafs aren’t that thick and aren’t hugely velvety. They have a sheen similar to a regal shield? She did have corms from a maharani aurea there but it doesn’t have any variegation? This is also my first time growing in semi hydro and I’d be grateful for any tips? I have this one and a dragon scale albo. They had completely dried out when I got them so I’m nervous about rot

the transition is a little easier if you let them sit in just water to rehydrate for a few days, then into semi-hydro. this is an interesting hybrid though, i don't have an answer. i'm curious too!

Thank you. Will let you know if I find out. It was in semi hydro (pon I think) with the seller but the medium was completely dry? I sat in water for 20mins last night and put it in leca with a little water at the bottom (that’s all I had) but I’ve no experience at all using semi hydro?

PlantswithKrystal has a good few videos about pon and other semi-hydro methods on her youtube channel.

That’s what I originally thought it was, but the leaves have a sheen and aren’t really velvety or that dark. They have pale green backs?

Just be sure to remove all the soil or you risk root rot. And find a good nutrient supplement for semi hydro. Needs to say that on the label. After much trial and error, I have found semi hydro products from Growth Technology to be my favorite. Their products have made a huge difference for my semi hydro plants. Better prices and size selection thru Plant Haul rather than Amazon.

Thank you. It was already in a semi hydro set up but had unfortunately been neglected and was bone dry. I’ve got it in leca currently but I’m nervous it’s all going to rot

I put the water level touching whatever roots are healthy and let the new growth chase the receding water level. Replace the water a minimum of once a week and it’ll bounce back(assuming enough light).

Also, looks like a watsoniana. Very beautiful.
