Any idea as to why this is happening. I got 2 from a nursery about a week ago. They both look like this and they are both in two different spots getting lots of humidity. They are both 3-4 feet away from a window no direct light. This one hasn’t been watered by me since I got it. The other one I have watered and the next day it looked like this as well. Looks like this is getting worse by the day. I have a grow light on as well for 3 hours.

They could have been overwatered at the nursery. Let the soil dry out a bit before you water. Alocasias are able to store some water in their stems

Thank you. Thats what I am thinking too. Soil is about 25% dry. I think I’m going to try pon for the first time for these guys and my dragon scale. None of them seem to like the soil they came in.

Try using an aroid soil mix, I’ve put all my alocasias in it and I’ve never had root rot again or overwatered them

Thank you! I have no idea what they are in now, almost looks like coco but not. I’m thinking of trying Pon. I have some fungus nats from the delivery and thought it’d be a good 2 in 1.

The other one is definitely in a tropical chunky mix, but I think it was my fault. I should have waited 2 more days. I think pon might be good for me as I said.

I agree. I have all mine in Molly’s Aroid Mix and they love it! (sold by Very Plants)

Yeah. I’ve heard they do better going soil-less. That being said I’ve had corms of African mask come up in the pot I threw outside (all summer) after the mother plant died. But generally I think the more drainage in the soil the better
