I just got my first alocasia today, I just finished washing his leaves off with some leaf cleaning spray as he was extremely dusty. I noticed all this browning on the edges of all the lower leaves, and all of the new leaves are about half the size of the largest ones. Is the browning something I should be worried about or is that more likely old damage from shipping/life at the store? I asked how long the plant was in the store and I was told they arrived the week before Mother’s Day. I have plenty of grow lights for him to stay in bright light all day and I know they like a chunkier soil mix than the store has it in, but I’ll get to replanting on another day.

    overwatering damage from the store. store lights don't give the plant enough UV, causing water to remain unused in the soil for longer. sunlight directly affects how quickly a plant can take in water. check for root rot, if everything is fine you should be a-okay and seeing recovery soon

      Awesome, I have it sitting about 2.5 feet from a T8 grow light on my ceiling and am waiting for when I return from a small vacation this weekend to do anything with it. I have normal potting soil, perlite, peat moss, small pumice, and long strain sphagnum moss, I was planning on making a pretty airy mix of the soil, peat, perlite, and maybe a little bit of the pumice. I have a 4” pot that has a humidity cloche I could put it in while it’s still small.

    Try to wait a couple of weeks before repotting as it’s already stressed from overwatering
