Hello! I somehow got talked into getting an alocasia recently lol I've heard they can be pretty fickle at times, so I was wondering if anyone had any tips for growing them. I appreciate any help! All the lady told me was to let the soil dry completely before watering it. Right now it's in my little greenhouse shelf with usually about 75%+ humidity depending on the time of day, and the temp usually stays around the mid to high 70s. I'm also not sure if I should repot it now, or wait until spring, since it's not growing out the bottom yet. I know some plants like to be a little cramped, but I am a serial repotter upon receiving plants lol and have luckily never dealt with any of them going into major shock or anything.

    Hi Ama, I have a few Alocasia & fund they enjoy high humidity & a mixed soil substrate ( well draining), they don’t like their roots water logged…. I keep mine in clear pots so I can check on root growth. A number of growers are keeping these in just ‘Leca clay balls’ with some success! My soul is a mixture of orchid bark, perlite & worm castings. My watering regime is once a week with misting twice a week … new leafs are showing so at present very healthy … 😍… enjoy Chris

      Good to know! Luckily i have clear/frosted pots on hand to repot it into when i have the chance! Thank you so much! :D

    Honestly +1. Clear plastic pot with plenty of drainage - be able to see the roots and amount of moisture in the soil. Same as above re soil - I add a bit of horticultural charcoal though. Humidity, humidity, humidity. I’m in the UK and it’s winter so the heating is on a lot. My plants are stacked together on grow-light shelves, and I mist them (very lightly) every couple of days. I do have humidifiers but they’re pretty intense so only get those out when it’s super dry. I have humidity sensors and as long as they show above 50, the Alocasia seem to do ok. They do thrive in the more humid summer weather though.
