Within the past two weeks I’ve gone from “let the inflorescence grow, I heard it’s beneficial to the plant” to “this is starting to seem a bit wonky here” to “CUT THEM OFF STAT THEY’RE DRAINING TOO MUCH ENERGY” Even with fertilizing, my once extremely happy alocasia is now drooping severely on all accounts, even staked up 😭😭 I feel like I’m failing her

I feel like a larger pot might be in order. My cuprea leaves get so big and heavy they droop a bit too at times. But it’s thriving.

She definitely could use a bigger pot but I’m trying to hold out to the spring 🥺 thank you!

Alocasias are known to go dormant during the winter months. This could just be part of the plants normal cycle

But it just produced inflorescences? Can it go dormant while it’s flowering?

No you’re probably right that it wouldn’t flower and be dormant. My past experience says plants either flower because they’re happy or because they think they’re dying… alocasias are very resilient provided you are letting them dry out. I have had mine for years and have almost killed it a few times. I would just make sure that the soil is allowed to dry out (top inch or two) before watering again. All my plants struggle in the wintertime
