I was gifted this plant by the owner of my favorite plant store. It’s in moss and under a sensi 10watt grow light. I’d love help on best way to take care of this plant. Also is the leaf deformed or still unfolding?? Thank you!! 🙏

Plantperson🌱🌵🌱Or it could also be a type of plant that forms its leaves like that, theres a type of Alocasia that’s called a stingray alocasia. Looks like this.

That's what this is! My leaf feels more dry and when I touch the part that curled under I feel it will brake off if I pull at it. The moss it is in I was told to keep wet but barley and I don't know how to do that? Its in a plastic cup no drainage has roots all around it, and if I pour water its in there and I did light pour in several spots but not enough for the water to go all the way down. I am so scared I am totally killing this guy. Oh and I see this picture but mine has just bowed all the way in.

Was it in a greenhouse type enclosed environment? They usually are at that age, which means it will probably need to be in a similar environment until it gets at least a second leaf. Then you slowly try to acclimate it to your ambient humidity. The great thing about it coming from grow light growing conditions is you can ask how many foot candles (or Lux) of light it had for how many hours a day. You can then use an app on your phone to measure the light you have in different spots. The human eye is extremely good at smoothing out our perception of light so that we don’t see it as the plant experiences it. I would then use Google AI on Pro mode to ask it to help you work out where it will be happy in your home. The math is quite complicated if you aren’t a math person and despite the issues AI sometimes has, it can be a good calculator for things like this. It probably sounds a bit extra. I don’t notice because I can’t rely on natural light because of how my house is designed and have had to learn a lot about all this stuff. I have found that plants that come from a very stable environment are used to having set conditions for their whole life and, while they can adjust, they are much happier if that adjustment is done very slowly or not at all. I have to agree it looks like an Alocasia ‘Stingray’ and it’s so cute! I suggest a bit of research online as Alocasias run the gamut of fussiness. I have a ‘Regal Shield’ that has survived me not being able to reach it to water it for about 3 weeks on two separate occasions without much issue and my amazonica ‘Dwarf Polly’ and ‘Bambino’ could thrive in a post apocalyptic world lol. My ‘Dragon Scale’, ‘Elaine’, and ‘Black Velvet’ however looked happy for ages, thrived actually, and then one day dropped all their leaves and died back to corms again. And what each of them thought was a bad day was different. You could also ask the person at the nursery where you got it as they would likely be happy to chat with you. They would also probably have an idea of the plants genetics as that makes a big difference. Re helping leaves unfurl that have gotten stuck, it’s a coin toss. Some people say never and some say do it. I can’t resist helping sometimes but I always damage the leaf somehow. The leaf is fairly useless if it can’t unfurl though. It can be an opportunity to prune a growth point in plants that need that to get bushier or branch out, so keep that in mind. It can also be a signal to put a small humidifier next to it to help it along with subsequent leaves.

Thank you so much!! So helpful! Any other great tips I would take! I have 47 plants and this is my first Alocasia ( but I went back and bought a few more. 🙃 anyhow I won’t unfearl the leaf it feels like I would snap it off. I am trying to figure out the watering. If you wish.. I left a comment above yours about it. And yes it’s a stingray and this guy has the most healthy plants and he doesn’t have one grow light in his shop! All led. Not sure if he was not understanding cause he’s from Syria and anyhow. Just amazing plants!
