Hi everyone! My alocasia elephant ear × polly needs urgent help. It's a rescue from a store, and it's had thrips for a good while, until I treated it with diatomaceous earth and neem oil - however, now that I don't see pests on the leaf, I see yellowing and translucent spots. Is it pest damage from before, or do I have to change something in the plant care? It's right next to a window, on a watering schedule and in a pebble water tray. The soil right now is thoroughly wet after a recent watering about 2 days ago (the diatomaceous earth became a sludge and trapped moisture, so I did my best to break it apart and airate the soil.) Let me know what you think, and thank you all in advance!

    Replace the soil with well draining potting mix. Clean out all root rot Avoid using DE on the soil. Insecticidal soap has less side effects. Check the humidity levels around the plant. Add a humidifier if needed.

If mushy, trim rot and repot in well-draining mix (coco coir/perlite/aeration mix). 2. Underwatering • Dry, crispy yellowing leaves from lack of water. • Alocasia needs consistent moisture (not dryness), especially in active growth. 3. Light Stress • Too little light = yellowing and stretching. • Too much direct sun = leaf burn + yellow spots. • Fix: Bright, indirect light is the sweet spot. 4. Dormancy or Seasonal Change • Alocasias can naturally drop leaves when transitioning to dormancy, especially in winter. • If it’s spring now, the plant should be waking up, so yellowing could mean something else. 5. Nutrient Deficiency • Pale yellowing, especially older leaves? Could be a lack of nitrogen or magnesium. • Fix: Use a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer during the growing season. 6. Pests • Spider mites, thrips, or aphids can stress the plant and lead to yellowing. • Check: Undersides of leaves and stem nodes for webbing or specks. 7. Transplant Shock • Recent repotting? Yellow leaves are common while adjusting.

      This might be the most comprehensive guide to Alocasias I've seen in my life:) thank you so much! Based on what I see, the guy was both overwatered and in direct sunlight most of the time, which caused the yellowing in the first place. He's feeling better now!:)

    I'm still a beginner, but I had an issue like this with my plants and it was because I was giving them too much sun. I had mine in a window like this too. As soon as I moved them out of being directly in the window they stopped doing this.
