I LOVE the look of Alocasia’s and want one, but have been worried about how well one might thrive and the horror stories of people killing ten in a row. Do you think this area can support one? (Where the fake plant currently is) It’s about 6 feet from a west facing window. Humidity is pretty low- no humidifiers or dehumidifiers in the house, and I’m in southern california so humidity is usually around like 50-60% I really love the look of these plants and want one, but I know the first time I kill a plant i’ll be devastated so I don’t want to buy one if i’m just sacrificing it to death.

    Never be afraid to kill a few. On average you'll kill about three of any species before you get the hang of its care. As for alocasias, you could get inexpensive starters for your first attempts, or you could start with a mature one that should be more tolerant of mistakes

      I'm not sure. I've only just started with alocasias myself

    My alocasias love the grow light and humidifiers. They also like warmth over drafts or chilly air.

    I unfortunately can’t do a humidifier because i have an extensive music collection in my room that prefers low humidity!

    I live in Michigan; never had a humidifier and I have a few that seem to do all right in my house. My first was a silver dragon that was a gift to me, which started me on this journey with alocasias. I have had her for three years and she seems pretty hardy as far as that goes. Have harvested corms and pups from her. In an east-facing window since Day One.
