This plant used to be ginormous however all of the leaves started turning yellow around the edges. At that point I thought it was too big and it needed a repot which I did then that turned into a different mess. Now, the leaves are starting to turn yellow again and there are negative zero signs of pests. I water ALL of my plants using using Superthrive Foliage Pro which does contain Calcium and Magnesium, however it has been suggested to added calmag to it. Im scared that would be too much fertilizer. Does anyone have experience qith this? The plant is in pon which sits in a water reservoir. Ambient Humidity sits around 50%-70% with dips down here and there. I check regularly for pests as well as spraying them with 70% rubbing alcohol once per month for prevention. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated

    It could be going dormant. Alocasias do that sometimes. I’m not sure tho. If the leaves fall but the stem/rhizome stays healthy looking, then keep it and it’ll regrow in a few months. If it’s anything else, idk.

    Possible fertilizer burn? If it was me, I would give it a good flush, and just stick with the foliage pro, and see if that remedies the issue. From what I've read, combining foliage pro with additional Calmag can cause fertilizer burn, as both products contain nutrients that, when overlapped, lead to excessive salt build up. Foliage pro is a complete nutrient formula already, making extra Calmag usually unnecessary and risky. Excessive magnesium can interfere with calcium absorption an cause toxic salt accumulation in the soil, which dehydrates roots. Avoid adding extra Calmag unless a severe, diagnosed deficiency exists.

    Don’t you hate when they cannibalize themselves and you don’t know why? I’ve added hydroponic Cal Mag and Silica to my fertilizer water and have noticed a huge difference. Maybe experiment with that. But like the lady above said, I flush about every 6 months, and if I can’t (plant and pit are too big). I just water with filtered water a time or two and hope for the best.
