    Polly is probably the most commonly available. Frydek is wonderful for variegation fans. If you want something smaller, cuprea or azlanii are nice picks.

    I have a variegated frydek i bought from Brumley & Bloom (excellent quality & good prices) & its one of my absolute favorites. Has produced 3 leaves in last month. My recommendation is to put it in a self watering pot with a 50/50 mix of stratum & perlite. I never let reservoir go dry. Water is treated w/aquarium purifier + an eye dropper full of Super Thrive & Prop Drops per gallon.

    Polly is a good starter Alocasia. I’ve read that hybrids are generally easier to care for/are more resilient. I have a Polly and a Green Unicorn that grow happily and give me no problems (knock on wood). Keep an eye out for spider mites - these are the Alocasia’s #1 nemesis.

      Valid! I think if they have decent humidity and a semi hydro or self-watering setup, you should be good. 👍

    I’ve had really good luck with Tiny Dancers but they don’t have the traditional Alocasia look we all want. My Melo seems pretty hardy. So does my Dragon’s Breath.
