My husband brought this Alocasia home from Lowes yesterday and it’s my first one. I changed the pot and soil, gave it a good wash down with my neem oil/alcohol mix, and set it up away from all my other plants in case it has pests! Since it’s in a rather dark area, I put it under a grow light. Will this be ok for it? I’m not sure how much light it needs.

It should be ok while it’s in isolation. Alocasias are notorious for being able to hide pests in their nooks and crannies. Check the leaves regularly so you can get ahead of them!!!

They grow on the rainforest floor, so bright indirect light. A grow light should be good. I would run it for 14 hours a day

Because you didn’t let it acclimate and changed the soil and environment at the same time it’s possible it might drop a few leaves. Just keep the light strong and don’t panic if that happens. If there’s a large temp or humidity change between where it was and where you are it might also try to go dormant or grow sluggishly for a bit. Just be prepared for leaf drop and remember even if it loses all its leaves you can start it back over from its main corm so hope is not all lost almost ever with these guys. I know people who restart their alocasias yearly from corm.

Try using a plastic bag humidity dome and putting it in something like fluval stratum under a decent grow light you got this!
