My alocasia amazonica has been home in the big box soil for over a month and she never changed. Today I decided to pop her out and take a look. The soil was infected with fungus gnats, the soil was too heavy and it was too much soil. Decided to downsize her pot in better soil and look at all my corms!!! I have moss on the way and I have terrarium cup but would love tips from any one with experience growing from corms! They’re currently soaking so I can remove the husks.

I have had great luck growing them in moss, but I have also seen people who swear by the shallow water method until they root. Once you decide to pot up they’re going to want to be moist consistently. Made the mistake of letting mine dry out a bit ://

Sounds great! Luckily I can probably keep them moist. I have clear plastic planters with some lids to make small terrarium cups so it should hopefully be a lovely humid environment for them

I’ve used perlite and never had any issues. I put the corms in a plastic container and opened it every few days.

I would personally lean towards fluval stratum and a taped cup as a lid on top.. if not, perlite is another great substitute. Keep moist & under a grow light / good light conditions and they should sprout in less than a month!

I’m currently growing some in sphagnum moss in a clear cup with cellophane covering the top. All 7 of mine are starting to sprout and most have roots. I keep it in a sunny window as I do not have a grow light or humidity cabinet. So far so good!!!

That’s about how mine are, clear planter cups with sphagnum and dome lids and the room all my plants are in is very sunny and warm with good ambient humidity so they will hopefully thrive 😊
