On Facebook marketplace, Alocasia pink Cuprea in a 2 inch plastic pot selling for $400 near me! Is this really the market price. Other private sellers near me have plants for $200 to $400! I think the most I have ever paid for a plant is $35. How many of you would pay that for a rare plant. I’ve seen others up to $600 locally. My favorite plant store has a regular selection of plants for several hundreds all the time. Just curious.
Crazy isnt it🫣 The thing about rare plants, much like other things- they get a lot of attention and then after a year or so and flooding of the market- they become more common and prices drop significantly. So, i think its a question of patience and are people willing to wait. I find a lot of good buys for rare plants at local nurseries for young/baby versions rather than online marketplace shops following trends. I will never pay more than 50 for a plant and even that is going to be some kind of special consideration for a mature plant. I think 38-40 is most ive ever paid. I only paid 31 for the mature mojito i just got with 4 of the giant leaves. I think i paid 40 for my thai con a year ago and now thwy are every where.
좋아요 1개 Same here. I’ve wanted a Birkin for years but wasn’t going to pay hundreds for a plant. After a few years prices came way down and bought a couple for less than $20.
0개 좋아요Market price is currently that high (i always check against rare plant fairy; they're growers that keep up to date on that and are fairly priced.) High prices for rare plants are for people who really want to be first, and to ensure that only serious growers get them, so they don't immediately die back off. They're affordable for people who use them as mother plants for tissue culture mass-production. Unless you know you can keep ot alive and just really want to be first to have it, you should wait, because it'll be common in like 2-5 years
0개 좋아요And with baby plants, those are cheaper a) because you get to wait more for growth, and b) because they're often harder to keep alive than mature plants
좋아요 1개 I do this for enjoyment. It would stress me out paying that much and then worrying that it will die. I’m amazed at the demand for high priced plants. The plant store sells out of those expensive plants pretty quickly. For many it’s a challenge and a possible money maker. And if you can afford it then that’s great. Just not for me.
