Looking for help! Relatively new to plants and hoping to save this one. Got her from a big box store on a whim in December and she’s been slowly deteriorating. The center leaf has been slowly yellowing since I got her, had to chop one dying leaf a month or so ago and now another one is on its way out. No new growth at all. I feel like everything I read says something different. Fertilizer, water more, water less, more sun, less sun, etc. I don’t have very bright light in my apartment but my other plants are doing fine with it. Is this “dormancy”? Should I chop all the leaves down back and start over?

    Roots are in good shape and been watering every 2ish weeks, whenever the soil is dry

    It should not be wet and not dry. should be consistently moist and never let it get dry and they love high humidity, so mist it or higher the humidity in some way. Also do you fertilize it once a month, because doing that is important to keep your plant healthy and alive. Also keep watering consistent, because inconsistent watering can cause damaged new leaves.

    The need an incredible amount of light. A dedicated grow light will help it but you may still lose many leaves but new ones will grow. Research where it is native to and the environment they grow in there.

    How far is it from a window or a grow light? It looks too dark in that location. It’s a fast growing plant that does well in a south window with filtered light through sheer curtains.

    Hi all. Thanks for the tips! Extra info: when I said I let the soil get dry I let the top inch or so get dry, never fully. And it does not stay in this location, it’s in front of a window, about 800 lux. I will start to fertilize and hope that helps!

    alocasias only support a handful of leaves at a time before dropping them. they also take a long time to adjust to new environments. give it some more time, maybe increase humidity, and cross your fingers :) i also got a regal shield from a big box store and it’s been through so much, but is finally pushing out new growth from the main stem almost 4 months later.
