I've had this Jacklyn for a few months now. I got it with two small leaves then it pushes out these two ginormous leaves. They went from being fine yesterday to now soft and flimsy with one of them now wheeping. She has been in a self watering planter with pon since I got her. The only thing that I can think of that has changed is that it's getting cooler at night. Zero signs of any pests. Thoughts?
Cold can cause drooping. The ones in my windows usually start to droopy as it gets colder. Since she's in pon, have you fertilized at all? lack of nutrients can also cause this. It shouldn't be overwatering, unless her roots have reached the actual water causing her to get more than she needs, if you're seeing a lot of guttation, I'd check
2개 좋아요Zero guttation. I fertilize every time I add water just like I do with all my other Alocasias. There is a screen on the bottom of the planter to hold in the pon so the roots can't get to the water directly. Being the new leaves are so big, do you think a bigger pot would help? But what you said about yours doing the same thing in cooler Temps would make sense. That is the coolest room in the apartment. When they do this, does that mean they are going dormant or will the leaves eventually die off?
0개 좋아요 If i leave them in the window the leaves have died back and dropped off. The black velvet died back until spring. So now I've moved most of my alocasia away from the window
좋아요 1개 I live in WA so it's in the 40s-30s in fall and can get about 15-20 in winter. And I don't heat my apartment much beyond 65 during the day.

Hey Wolfen… nice to know you live in WA! I live in OR, so we’re both PNW neighbors. Don’t ya just love all the liquid sunshine we get?! I’m getting raincoats and umbrellas for some of my outdoor plants… you know, the ones that don’t like to get their feet wet…😉! I sympathize, and am getting my galoshes out; how about you? 🤗💚🪴

I notice my alocasia’s droop when their soil is drying out and need to be watered, is the soil dry??
