    That's a sign of overwatering. Check for root rot

    My alocasia dragon scale is the same size as this one of yours and is doing exactly the same thing. I think its overwatering too

    Probably best to do away with the self watering part, may need to change soil to better draining as looks like soaking up and holding to much water, which will cause root rot

    It is normal for a smaller alocasia to drop a leaf around the same time as growing a new one.

    I’m quite sure you looked at it wrong and possibly on the wrong day…. Hahaha, jk . I have many alocasias that will shed a leaf as a new one grows. Just be sure you’re not overwatering and be sure the soil is chunky enough to allow the roots to breathe as well. I’ve tried many things and some alos are just finicky.
