Newbie I bought an Alocasia cuprea today. I maybe should have learned about this one before buying it. Impulse! I read they are sensitive to cold and do best in a warm room, like 77 warm. I keep my house at 65 in the winter. The plant is in a warmer part of the house, but it’s maybe 68? It will get 3-4 hours of direct sun. I am seeing inconsistent info on how much light. What’s been your experience with temperature and direct sun? Any other advice?
Helloo Im from Florida But i have had My alocasia with me In Maine/New Hampshire and In North Dakota and As long as They are inside And not on/by a window it will be alright! 🙂 I learn By having my alocasia (ive had multiple different types and have Been pretty much the same care-wise!) they dont like to be Fully Dry! i Am used to letting my Aroid plants (philodendrons and what not) Dry out a bit and then Give them a big water but I learn with my alocasia over time that once the soil damp - still sticks to you a bit when You check the soil- i usually Will Touch the bottom on the pot where the drainage holes are and if they soil sticks to me a LITTLE bit Then i will water my alocasia unless the soil is still very wet and sticks Alot! & Over time you will Remember/learn when it needs water but looking at the soil! i used foxfarm’s “ocean forest” soil and mix some perlite, orchid bark & Some lecca clay balls and they seem to like it! You can find all of that on amazon! You can also Find Premixed Soils For Alocasia’s but I find Making my own^ Definitely works for me better!
좋아요 1개 since your in a colder Climate if you dont get much sunlight (More then 4/8 hours of sun) then Amazon also has a couple good grow lights That You can use for your alocasia’s!

0개 좋아요 You’re welcome! If you decide to get a grow light, you can set them for 4-12 hours. I usually leave mine on for 12 hours because plants need the most light and 12 is What they need Fully! but the least they can need/should have is 4 to 8 hours! I didn’t know that when I started with plants like 5-6 years ago, so I thought I’d just throw that in there!
좋아요 1개 I have a few grow lights I’ve been trying out. A grow bulb in a floor lamp seems best for my set up right now. I have some long lights but they are a pain
