Botanical Hack

This Black Velvet was bought with 2 leaves. One of them was imperfect so I trimmed it. It seemed fine for a while but I just noticed a quick progression of yellowing as shown in the update photo. I’ve cut the leaf off and thrown it away. Where it’s not just yellowing, but also has some dry graying on the end, I’m hoping that it’s unique enough to help you all identify exactly what the problem was. The other leaf is in perfect condition and there is another leaf starting to pop out. The yellow leaf is the oldest leaf if that helps. Thank you for any feedback you might have.

Common to drop old leaves. Perfectly normal. If a new leaf is coming you’re doing fine.

I agree with Scott, especially if the leaf was damaged. No worries!

Thanks you guys! That’s what I was hoping would be the case.

if you cut the end of the leaf with sheers or scissors, the leaf probably got infected and that’s what caused it to continue more into the leaf, and the grey/white dry edges. that’s happened to me before, so i just leave the leafs now.

Always make sure to disinfect any shears or scissors you use to cut old leaves.

yeah that’s a given, for sure. just seems to happen anyways with the open wound. i just recommend leaving the leaf to run it’s natural course.
