Hi! I got my first Alocasia two weeks ago. I can see that she is getting ready to produce a new leaf and I'm noticing that the oldest one is starting to turn yellow and droop. I've heard that alocasias can do this when a new leaf is emerging. Is this something that is always going to happen, or is there a way to help her get fuller?

As notorious as they are for doing that, I think growing environment has alot to do with it as well. In my experience none of my Alocasia drop leaves when they grow new ones. Give yours time to adjust. Being brought into a new environment and growing a new leaf is stressful for them. Beautiful plant btw!

Thanks a lot! Do you fertilize with every watering? I've been reading that this type of alocasia is really "hungry" and that this would help with their growth.

Alocasia in general are very hungry plants. As for fertilizing with each watering; It depends on how often I am watering. If it is really warm and I am watering more frequently due to them drying out a bit faster then I will skip fertilizing. If it is their "usual" schedule of every 8ish days then yes, I will give fertilizer with each watering. I was giving half dose with each watering however the current fertilizer I use, Foliage Focus, I use full strength as it is meant to be given with each watering.

This is one of my Alocasia; Has never dropped a leaf while growing a new one.
