Hi! First time Alocasia owner here and looking for some advice ๐ . Just got this lovely little frydek and Iโve seen conflicting advice on soil. Sheโs in my super chunky mix right now but wondering if thatโs best or if she needs something with more water retention? Thanks!!
Hi! What you have there is an Alocasia micholitziana 'Green Velvet'. A 'Frydek' is the variegated A. micholitziana. They like airy substrates. The key is to never let them dry out in between waterings as it can harm the roots too much to the point where they can't uptake enough at the next watering and effectively rot and die. I have the best success is self watering pon/pumice but if I haven't yet converted to semi hydro then it gets tropical chunky mix, with a water wick if possible. Helps me buy some time by staying moist enough if I miss a few days in between waterings.
