The “new” leaf on my Polly has looked like this for 6 weeks! Could the plant be dormant? Would that happen while in the middle of growing a new leaf? It currently has three great leaves. Any ideas why the new growth is stunted like this?

I’m not as familiar with the Polly, but it might open if you increase the humidity around it. Placing a humidifier near it for a few days might do the trick. My alocasias are pretty small so I was able to get a new leaf to open on my melo after gently covering it with a ziploc bag for a few days to increase the humidity around it.

Thanks. I have it on a pebble tray with water (not sitting in water though). This increases the humidity, but maybe not enough. I just picked up a Melo this weekend. It’s small and cute right now. Can’t wait to watch it grow. The leaf pattern is so cool.

Sometimes they just take a while or there’s something weird going on. Either way you’ll have to wait and see. If you’re in the northern hemisphere it is “plant winter” for many of us. Could just be slow because of this

Mine was dormant for a while and just started sprouting a new baby. It is taking a while! Polly’s do like humidity, but I don’t think it’s as important as other plants because mine does just fine. Wipe the leaves down with some water to give a fresh clean. I’m not too sure, but it could also be preparing to shed another leaf. What do the mama leaves look like?

It has three big healthy leaves, but one did just go. It was the oldest. Maybe now it can give more energy to the new leaf.
