I have wanted an Alocasia for ever and just happened to randomly find a single one in Lowe’s. It was in a pot with no drainage so I immediately repotted it. The leaf with the big yellow spot was already like that, any idea what caused that and if it can be salvaged? Also, the tips of the older leaves are starting to yellow since I got it, is that stress from being repotted or is it something else? Bonus question: any idea what kind of Alocasia it is? It wasn’t specified when I bought it so I tried to identify it by color, but I’m not very confident. The leaves have a very slight silvery sheen to them, but I’m not familiar enough with the varieties to know for sure. Thanks!!

that looks like a silver dragon. not super sure about that weird warpy spot but my guess is an overwatering/fungus issue since the pot had no drainage? (honestly, what are growers thinking when they do that 🙄) i personally would cut that spot out so it doesn’t grow, or the whole leaf off, & keep a close eye to make sure the rest of the leaves stay healthy.

It would be a dream come true if it is a silver dragon, that’s the specific kind of Alocasia I’ve wanted! And yes, the pot it came in was all fancy and probably made up at least half the price, and no drainage?? I don’t understand why they sell them like that. I’ll try cutting that leaf and see what happens!

This is an alocasia platinum. I would cut that leaf off with the yellow spot. Usually that means a fungal issue.

I did go ahead and take the leaf off, I’m not seeing it spread so hopefully the rest of the plant is safe! Should I treat it with some kind of fungicide?

I would go ahead and treat it. And by the way my daughter’s name in McKinsey! We call her Kinsey.
