You need an aroid mix. Or you can go semi hydro but theres research you gotta do. I suggest YouTube… I’m finding out that YouTube is much more helpful than many of the groups I’m in. Much more knowledgeable growers

But what YouTuber as most of the popular ones openly admit they’re not very good with alocasia

There’s many YouTubers who are great with alocasia. Good growing, leafy diva, plants by Melissa, jungle haven, leca queen, soooo many more. I learned everything I know about alocasia by watching videos on there, so informative. All these YouTubers have huge alocasias

Huge alocasia collections as well, all these YouTubers own most of the popular alocasia varieties and are thriving growing them. So far I’ve done really well with mine in semi hydro following their advice. The thing is you have to watch current videos… that’s what I mean by semi hydroponics is something you definitely have to research. Because if you watch a video from a few years ago, they were still learning… but current ones are more updated information from what they’ve learned. I spent weeks researching alocasia & hydroponics watching everything I could find that would have good information

Your Bambino would LOVE to be in PON with a water reservoir at the bottom. But in general they like more moist environments. I think of them sort of halfway between a Calathea and a Philodendron in how moist they like to be. I have probably a dozen different alocasia. Every one I have transitioned to PON has done well except for one Frydek that went albino and killed itself but that wasn’t the growing mediums fault. BUT I will say I find that big box stores do excellent with their soil choice for alocasia. I typically keep mine growing in the same soil I get it in for 2-3months just to fully acclimate to my home. They definitely need good light, in the winter they can enter a dormancy period where they look nearly dead if you don’t supplement with a grow light or keep them warm enough. Best of luck!

My latest, still in its nursery pot, bought right before Valentine’s Day. I at least practice what I preach :p

My cuprea has only given me one new leaf and I’ve had her for a year… but my Ivory Coast makes leaves faster than I can count. Does my cuprea hate me or does she need a repot?

It hates you. 3 out of 4 leaves in this picture are since early February. It probably is root bound, not getting enough light, or not frequent enough watering. My soil never goes dry but I get close to that

Another question since it seems like you know a lot lol what would be best for a philodendron pink princess? I have another philodendron thats in like a chunky bark (not orchid bark though) so would that be ok for the ppp to? I also have sphagnum moss which planta also recommends thanks! :)

I use Molly’s aroid mix for all my Alocasia’s, Philodendrons and other tropical plants and they love it! My Bambino and Polly that I rescued from the grocery store gave me new growth immediately after reporting. It’s soulless to so no bugs or gnats 👌🏻

I’ve moved all mine to leca. It’s been about a month so I’m still waiting for them to fully transition, but I’ve heard of such great results with a little patience and they seem healthy :)
