Ok, so I got this alocasia frydek from Facebook marketplace a month ago. From my plant dealer that I frequent often. Anyone. When I got her, she had 2 leaves, just like in her picture. Well one started drooping and pretty much laid flat and she spit out a new leaf. The two leaves have been standing tall till about 4 days ago. The newest leaf is standing straight up while the other is laying onto the side. I guess I’m about to get a new leaf lol but I wanna know what’s the secret to get past this level lol. I want more than 2 leaves. Haha

    they're dramatic 😭 mine also only has 2 leaves- i watched a video by Sydney Plant Guy on moving his frydek from soil to leca pon & moss with a water resevoir and am currently attemping that myself. his really thrived after replanting into that medium. alocasias are so fickle , best of luck :)

      lol saw that too and am trying as well, also apparently they like a lot of light

    @ ash angel i actually gasped when i saw how good his turned out, and then i immediately looked over at my sad little frydek and felt Shame hahahaha 😭😆 ill look into getting a grow light just for mine!

    Yours is a young Alocasia so think your only going to get 2-4 leaves till growing season, looks healthy but not sure about the soil mix, looks compact and not very well draining, would recommend a better draining soil mix

      I did just repot it probably two weeks ago because the soil was in was like crushed Oreos lol and all my plants love my soil mix, including that one lol. It’s definitely not compact and definitely well draining.

      Ok didn’t realize you’ve just repotted, just looked at the picture of yours that looked compacted with a bit of , what looks like green algae on top of a bit of the soil. As snail diva said about sensitive of roots, so most likely concentrating on root growth before leaves.

    Since you are mentioning that you repotted recently, alocasias are especially sensitive to having they root disturbed. That with a combination of being younger, are most likely why this is happening. Once stabilized, they are really hungry for fertilizer. This does help sustaining multiple bigger leaves 😊

      Yea. I only repotted because the first two weeks of having it the same thing had happened and also the soil look very compacted and had a consistency of crushed Oreos. Normally I would never repot so soon and thought it was very risky for me to do so. But she survived and still acts the same lol

      I’ve done both leaving in and repotting immediately and I see virtually no difference for alocasias (especially the ones picked up in person rather than shipped) It’s more the root disturbances that they do not appreciate than the substrate change itself.
