I just purchased these two pretty guys over the weekend… planta informed me that they were too advanced for my current plant mom skill set. 😅 Which I don’t doubt, BUT I am hoping to hear any tips or tricks from my more experienced community members to help keep these babies alive and *hopefully thriving. Literally any information is helpful Thanks in advance!

For your alocasia Polly, Altho every one says it needs humidity, I live in Phoenix Arizona and there is no humidity here, and my Polly is doing amazing. I don’t have a humidifier or anything but Planta tells me when to mist the plant and along with misting I clean her leaves, she’s thriving.. but if you want to see her perk up, bring her into the bathroom when you shower or bath for extra humidity, they are in non draining glassware, and in Fluval stratum

On my big ones I do not? I have a east facing window and they are just out of reach of the direct light, when I bought them they were yellowing so I put them in Fluval stratum for max nutrients and they have thrived, but I’m about to convert them to Leca with purived plant food. If you go onto tiktok and just search for the plant you have there will be hundreds of videos about care, propagation, lighting, and tips for controlled humidity, that’s where I learned the shower trick haha just set them up on the back of the toilet and enjoy your shower

Mine is loving pon!!! I always see people say leca but I think it’s only because pon is a bit pricey… but it’s worth it. Pon with self watering pot!!! Alocasias love it! Seriously watch YouTube videos. They love high humidity, like 75-90… so humidifier and grow light are necessary!!! Also I don’t mist mine… I ended up with a fungus spot so now I just clean the leaves every few days with a damp cloth… from all the research I’ve done misting just opens you up to fungus… and has very little effect on the plant because most don’t draw up water from their leaves only roots! Seriously research it, I feel like misting is for greenhouse settings. Also have a fan for air flow since high humidity can leave surfaces wet

I’m a beginner but also picked up an alocasia in sept despite plants warnings 😂 my advice is keep them moist but not soggy, give it plenty of light (I have it next to a window and still using grow lights) and plenty of humidity! I bought a humidifier mainly for this plant lol and it seems to be happy! Its put out several leaves with me and I grew a corm!

I’ve been using these! Suuuper cheap so idk how long they’ll last or if they’re the best quality but it seems to be fine so far 🤷‍♀️ they’re $10

Same thing with 2 of my 4 plants. I’ve had both for a bit and they seem to be doing fine. I bought before I looked them up (don’t recommend, but it’s fun for adventure) and Planta told me I’m dumb and stupid for buying it. Worst case scenario, it dies and you have to toss it, and you learn something, Best case, it lives and flourishes. Everyone kills a plant sometimes, it’s just part of learning the right things to do. Make sure you check up on Humidity, temperature, drainage, etc. it should be fine! Good luck!
