I got an alocasia black velvet a couple of weeks ago and I’ve noticed the bottom leaves are starting to go yellow and crisp up at the ends- does anyone know what’s causing it and how to fix it?! Thanks!

My guess is possible underwatering and humidity.

Are the white dots on the right hand leaf just dust or the camera? If not it may be spider mites. For this I’d spray and wipe all the leaves with water. And then use neem oil diluted in water to spray on the leaves, spray every 3-5 days. When you next water, add in neem oil to that too. Otherwise could be tap water - they tend to be fussy. So boil your water and let it cool before watering

New plants can get a little raggedy while they adjust to the new environment, especially delicate plants like alocasia. Is your home humidity low? It also looks like the soil is very peat or coir heavy. Stores do that because it’s cheap and the plants stays wet longer if the employees don’t water them enough. However, I personally think it’s too dense for long-term use. I would give it a couple more weeks of acclimation and then repot it in a tropical soil mix. In the mean time, check the humidity if you can and make sure the soil dry about an inch from the top before you water again

Thank you so much- what would be the best way to increase humidity?

A humidifier is the best way to increase humidity, in my opinion. But you can also make a pebble tray for the plant to sit on. That is when you put rocks and water in a tray under your plant. The rocks hold the plant out of the water and also provide surface area to increase the amount of water evaporating into the area just around your plant. Or you could get a glass or plastic dome to put over the plant to make a little greenhouse effect

You need a grow light, humidifier, pon, & self watering pot. Also fan for air flow. Get all that and it will take off!!
