I am considering a potting medium change for my two alocasias. My soil is currently mixed with orchid bark and perlite but I’m thinking it’s still not chunky enough and holds a bit too much water. My ninja is looking a little depressed which is why I am thinking about this, though it may still be acclimating. Anyone have any recommendations? I am contemplating leca but feel like I see mixed things on it. Or would just adding more bark/perlite be the easier answer?

Large chunks of perlite also make a big difference. I ran out of the bag I had and went with the regular size from the garden center. I’ve already noticed a huge difference in time it takes for soil to dry. Small perlite says soggy! I wish it were easier to get my hands on big perlite without ordering online every time

Ooh that sounds like it would just be good to have on hand, I’ll have to look for some!

What’s your mix ratio as of right now?

In my Polly it’s probably 50/50 soil and bark/perlite. The ninja is more soil as I was running low on the others, which is part of why I think it’s looking rough.
