GreenLeaf

My black velvet currently has a flower that’s opened, another that is opening within the next week, and a new leaf (not sure why its so happy but I’m not complaining!). My question is… How long do people wait to cut off the flower? I’m not looking to cut them before they bloom. They’re weird and they stink but I’m loving them. But once they have, do you just let it die naturally? Or cut it off at a certain point?

Well I used to cut them off but guess what … It messes em up it’s part of their life cycle -only stipulation is that if your alocaisa is sick or dying it will flower as a last ditch effort to survive to continue on .. If it’s healthy and you know you’re tending to it properly leave the flowers be til they dry out then snip as close to base as possible without damage to rest of the plant .. And guess what will happen - you will be graced with a beautiful new leaf , or two . Lol I can say this ppl mess up feeding alocasias regular ol houseplant feed.. anything not low in the second number of npk rating of the fertilizer is encouraging flowers to form . I use tps houseplant 3-1-2 myself but lotta ppl use dynagrow foliage pro also with decent results . Dosed at 1/4 strength ofc - til summer growth season begins then maybe half every watering . For tps it’s not as strong so can half it and go up to full dose by summer … If your wanting a cheap decent effective tropical plant food tho / and are using non tap water //miracle gro actually makes a suitable fertilizer with all necessary nutrients .. -It includes kelp and worm castings It’s houseplant shake n feed and it’s strong too so yeah like once again like 1/4 dosed . And I believe it lasts 3 months slow release so no mixing every time I refuse to use their soil tho if I know them ya knowww
