Houseplant Heretic

Just lucked out and found this beauty at my local grocery store for $15! Here’s my dilemma, should I transfer straight to LECA, or leave her alone for now? I’ve successfully transferred my other Alocasia (Nebula and Maharani), but lost most of the original leaves in the process, which I wouldn’t normally mind…but man I hate to lose this variegated beauty, especially not knowing if I’ll get another…. On the other hand, I don’t have any soil plants indoors, and with this coming from a big chain store, there’s no telling what might be going on under the surface (pests, rot, etc.). What would you do?

I went to check at my big box stores recently and the selection and health of plants were awful AND the prices were ridiculously high 🤦‍♀️

I’m really stunned! I see other people find things like this all the time, but this is a first for me!

I know, I’m so worried about leaving this one as is. I took all the dyed, preserved moss off of the top of the soil at least, and made sure it wasn’t sitting in water in the cache pot. The stuff from Kroger is usually in rough shape, or covered in pests, but I had to take a chance with this one.

That’s understandable, I’m just not sure what to do. You’ll have to share a picture of your nebula! They always look so cool

Woooow! You’re definitely lucky! I would leave her alone for now so that she doesn’t shock too much.

Beautiful 🤩 I would definitely wait. I like to transfer my plants from soil to lechuza pon then LECA. I’ve noticed minimal to none shock.

My alocasias are in soil! A mix of perlite, charcoal and potting mix. I’ve been nervous to try leca haha
