This Alocasia Dragon Scale is my first plant requiring lots of specialized care and I’m worried I’ve killed it. The info: it’s in an east facing window supplemented with a grow light, temperature kept between 20-23 C. I watered and fertilized yesterday (after 9 days of no water and the top two inches of soil completely dry, fertilized with half strength marphyl) and overnight the leaves have turned spotty yellow and drooped dramatically. Would love advice on how to keep this baby alive! I think I see signs of rot at the base. I appreciate any help you may have for me!

The soil looks very wet, which seems to me like the roots aren't uptaking water fast enough, and if you think there is root rot that is most likely the issue. Remove from the soil, get rid of all the rotted roots, soak in water/hydrogen peroxide for 10 min or so, repot in a chunky well draining tropical mix

I keep all my alos in an aroid soil mix. They’ve been happy and I haven’t had root rot since changing the soil. I’ll add a pic

Thank you! I have some coming on Thursday. Glad to know it works for others. 💗

Change it to a chunkier aroid soil mix and inspect for root rot. Don’t panic if all leaves fall. Alocasias are pretty good at bouncing back just from their tubers! As long as the tuber (stem) is good you should be fine

I cleaned her off and she had rhizome rot, but luckily there was two rhizomes in the pot. I used a gentle sprayer to separate them and repotted in perlite after watching a YouTube video on the topic. My little dragon scale looks different now, I hope she survives!
