Hey alocasia lovers, don’t be a dummy like me and somehow confuse alocasia’s and Calatheas. lol they don’t even resemble. But my mistake was thinking it’s corms and not rhizomes. Don’t cut your rhizomes calathea parents. Your roots will brown and leaves will loose color immediately. I don’t care what you try she’s dead in 3 days tops.
I didn’t know calatheas grew off rhizomes. I don’t know what I actually thought they grew from though, my only calathea is still in its store pot and soil as it’s been extremely happy and healthy in there, so I only see new leaves poking out of the soil. Very good to know for when I do need to repot it to be extra careful.
좋아요 1개 I propagated a small one I found half dead in the bottom of a tray at Home Depot. Gave her a little tlc and two leaves became 10, roots were spreading so big she outgrew her jar, so I figured I’d take the “corms” (or what I thought it was) and get two other plants from it. Well. Womp womp womp. That picture is maybe 10 hours after I cut the rhizomes. You can see the brown roots immediately. Lost its beautiful color purple/ burgundy in a matter of hours
Propagated in water the entire process, was doing fabulous before I fluffed it up lol
