Hey everyone, I purchased this cutting about 2 weeks ago already and have been propagating it however I have had zero success in getting new roots😭 he seems to be growing new leaves but some did fall off and the the bottom stem looks a bit discolored. Should I leave it in the water or transport to soil?
noooo it takes literally MONTHS to grow roots keep in water until the roots are long or grow second roots

I wonder if this is the same with pothos, cuz my cutting hasn't grown roots and it's been months in water already 🤔

5 J'aime That’s good to know I’m a new philodendron mom my go too is always pothos and my propagations have only taken about 2-3 weeks so that’s why I was so worried😭
2 J'aime Should I keep the water it has or change it out completely I’m noticing some green algae but I’m not sure if that healthy or harmful to the plant

Hi. The algae is totally normal and it won’t hurt the plant. You should be switching the water here and there but if you don’t I find it helpful to just splash a little Hydrogen peroxide in the water it help with oxygen in the water and promotes root growth. 1 tablespoon to a liter of water.

Roots should grow out in about two to three weeks for this type of philodendron. Check that at least one leaf node is always under water. New roots emerge near the leaf nodes. See the before and after photos of my Philodendron Rio cuttings. Your cutting is long enough to put 2 nodes under water to get more roots. I recommend using a container with a wider opening that is easy to clean. Clean the container when the water gets cloudy, about twice a month. Fertilize with a liquid fertilizer when the roots start to show. I also add SuperThrive plant vitamins to the fertilizer water. You can add a liquid rooting hormone to help boost the root growth. Place the container under a grow light at least 12 hours a day or in bright indirect sunlight. Keep it away from cold air. I keep my cuttings in the kitchen because it’s always warm and is usually more humid than the rest of the house. 🪴🍀

1 j'aime I will add it took about 2.5 weeks to grow all the roots shown in my photos. The longest was 4 inches when the photo was taken. The first root emerged within the first week.

I use a similar prop station for one of my set ups… found it at the dollar tree of all places but the lid comes up so it can be thoroughly washed
3 J'aime Also, be careful of the water you are using. Most tap water just doesn’t cut it.
